Melissa Davis is a professional Librarian with over 52 years experience as campus Librarian, District Technology Coordinator, District Library Coordinator, and Academic Librarian. She has been instrumental in the planning and execution of three library management system installations and the development of a school district network. Her focus now is on acquisition of quality resources for her students. Currently, Mrs. Davis serves as the Librarian for Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas, a LIRN member for more than 15 years. Commonwealth is a private, non-profit college accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). About 2/3 of the 330 students are online and 1/3 are on campus. Students come from around the country to take part in Commonwealth’s degree program. Mrs. Davis brings strong problem solving, adaptation and strategic thinking skills to the LIRN Board. Her experience in district-level administration and academic library development provides a robust foundation for consideration of LIRN program improvements. Mrs. Davis received her Bachelor of Arts from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and her Master of Library Science from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She holds lifetime Professional All-Level Learning Resources Specialist and Professional Supervisor teaching certificates from the Texas Education Agency in addition to subject area teaching certificates. Mrs. Davis is a member of the Texas Library Association, the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
